Creating a workout plan is similar to the New Year's resolution planning we all make. Of course, most of us give up on resolutions after a day or two, but there's really no defeat here.

It is difficult to keep promises, simply because most people make difficult promises. Most of us fail to stick to our resolutions at the beginning of the year because our goals need to be more realistic. When we make New Year's resolutions to quit smoking, we overlook that quitting is a gradual process that takes time.

So the smart way to quit smoking would be to smoke about 4 cigarettes a day, then reduce it to 2, and so on. There's no point in expecting someone to quit smoking just because we've made a promise.

Similarly, when you plan your bodybuilding regime keep in mind that it needs a set of achievable goals to actually work. You won't become Stallone in a month so don't set out to do it, give yourself a 6 month rest time limit. Also, remember that when you're just starting out you won't have the stamina of a professional athlete or an experienced bodybuilder, so if you can't keep up with Arnie (who's been training for 2 years now) Don't be discouraged. When you start your regime, keep it to no more than 2 days a week. Make sure you have at least 2 hours on hand so that you don't have to rush the workout. Start with some cardio exercises to charge your muscles. Spend a little time on the treadmill or try some walking, anything that gets your heart pumping at about 80% of its normal capacity is a good option. Even if you don't want to start with cardiovascular exercises, make sure you do them after your exercise regime to help your body burn more fat.
